Creative IconBig Bang appointed national 'Creative Icon'

Big Bang is appointed honorary ambassador for the new national promotional campaign 'Creative Korea.' The K-pop group will take on the role of a 'Creative Icon' starting at this year's Rio 2016 Olympic Games and continuing through to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Big Bang has been appointed as an honorary ambassador for Korea's new national promotional campaign, "Creative Korea."

The K-pop group was chosen as a "Creative Icon" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the national campaign, which aims at promoting "creativity" as being at the core of what it means to be Korean.

As an honorary ambassador, Big Bang will become the face of the national campaign during the Rio Olympics, held in Brazil this month. The group will send messages of support to the athletes, and feature prominently on promotional material for "Creative Korea." Big Bang will continue to represent "Creative Korea" at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games, too.

Since their debut back in 2006, Big Bang has become one of the most popular K-pop bands worldwide, with countless hits ranking in the top 10 charts. The band released an album in the Japanese market in 2009, and since then, Big Bang has expanded its fan base across the world. In 2011, the band became the first Korean group to win the Best World Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

In addition to their musical pursuits, members of Big Bang are involved in a number of philanthropic projects. Profits from their world tours are donated to organizations like UNICEF. The group also continues to raise funds for a number of local and international charities.
